It is wonderful for human nature that we are infinitely unpredictable. Any person contains crowds and is capable of things we do not know, maybe some things even he does not know.
When it comes to the world of movies, this means that even in the most unexpected moments, an actor or director can really get them out of the bag. Even if they are stagnant or have not impressed for years, there is always the possibility of overturning it. We have seen it happen millions of times in the past and we will see it again.
There are many reasons why we may not expect much from a particular actor. They may be inexperienced, they have a bad history, they have been out of the game for a while and such. Well, we all have to stop being so quick to judge because we may turn out to be wrong in an instant.
Typecasting and pigeonholing may hold back some celebrities, but there will always be those who will be released and will surprise us all with an amazing performance. In this aspect and only in this aspect, I like to prove myself wrong.
I guess it’s probably unfair that over the years Nicolas Cage has become a little funny. It’s an unfortunate byproduct of his tendency to act foolishly and his involvement in a variety of bad movies. is the Adam Sandler effect, if you will.
He has a range of consistent performances under his belt, from his performance alongside Cher at Moonstruck in 1987 to his fascinating performance at Mandy in 2018 – his range is truly impressive. This, however, does not make him immune to the results of his less successful films and it is always the bad reputation that stays longer.
So when we heard about a movie about a truffle collector whose pig is being stolen with Cage in the lead role, we expected the worst. Fortunately for director Michael Sarnoski, however, his feature-length debut was a success with almost all critics – with Cage being praised for his convincing – and surprisingly restrained – performance as a food collector, Rob Feld.
In Cage’s terms, it is an underrated interpretation, which critics have praised for his modest humility in the role. With Pig, Cage reminded us all that they should not dove him.
