The Fast and Furious franchise has been around for over 20 years and has had a long and winding road to the international box office we know today.

But perhaps the only thing confusing about how Dom, Letty, Brian and the rest of the crew went from street racers, petty crooks and cops to global superspies is what order you’re supposed to watch these movies in. After his release Quick Xthe series will have 10 mainline entries, two with the same name and several with completely different types of names, and a spinoff film.

Don’t worry though, we’re here to walk you through the franchise a quarter mile at a time, and if you’re a veteran of the Fast franchise who already knows the timeline backwards and forwards, we’ve got one more suggestion on how to mix up your rewatch before from the penultimate (probably?) franchise entry:

Where to watch Fast and Furious movies on stream

Before we jump into potential watch orders, it’s important to know where it’s all streaming.

The franchise’s first eight entries are available to DirecTV subscribers. The first five entries, as well as Furious 7, are available on TNT and TBS (the first movie is only on TNT). Furious 7 and F9 they stream on Peacock and F9 also airs on HBO Max. The spin-off Hobbs & Shaw it’s only available through VOD providers like Amazon, Apple TV, Google Play, and Vudu — and the rest of the movies are available on those platforms as well.

This is the simplest possible way to watch these movies: the order in which they were originally released. On the one hand, this is a semi-logical progression of a narrative and provides a nice window into how the series has expanded over the years. As an added bonus, it’s also a lot of fun to watch these things get more and more ridiculous at every turn — and seeing the crew go from beefing up A/V equipment to stealing nuclear submarines still hits the spot as hilarious and strange seeing them like this. seeing them years apart in theaters.

Watch Fast and Furious movies in chronological order

That’s a bit weak, considering all the retcons, flashbacks, and CGI scene additions over the years, but we’re doing our best. Except for Dom and his brother Jacob’s flashback from F9, the only huge change in this series is fit The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift in the middle of the sixth and seventh registers, because technically that’s what happens in the canon. Other than that, this is pretty similar to the release order, but at least makes a little more sense.

Watch Fast and Furious movies with “flashback series”

Now we’re really confusing things. This order attempts to make sense of the slippery (gratuitous) continuity that has held this franchise back and given Justin Lin and Vin Diesel license for increasingly absurd stunts – especially over the last decade.

First, we should justify the fact that this crew is known for their daring espionage and exploits, so we start with Fast and Furious and Quick 5. Next, it’s time to see a little backstory on how this crew came together. Finally, we kick things off on a high note with some of the crew’s most popular jobs, as well as a story about Han and Shaw that will continue to be a plot thread until quick x, where he has teased that the two might meet.

This series shakes things up for veteran Fast viewers and gives a slightly new twist to the way the show tells stories. Crucially though, it maintains enough structure that it doesn’t feel completely random.
