New injury blow for ArsenalHis growing list arrived at the weekend with Gabriel Martinelli their most recent concern.
The Brazilian left early in the loss to Brightonbefore they were spotted with a protective boot on Emirates Stadium.
The news adds to Arsenal’s absentees for the final weeks of the season, with Oleksandr Zinchenko hit before the game.
William Saliba he seems to have lost his battle to play again before the summer, as well Takehiro Tomiiyasu and Mohamed Elneni.
Here is your latest update on Injuries at Arsenal and return dates…
Gabriel Martinelli
The Brazilian forward lasted just 19 minutes in Sunday’s clash with Brighton after a fierce challenge from Felipe Caicedo forced him off through injury.
Standard Sport they understand Martinelli will undergo scans on the matter in the following days, while the team has taken Monday off. It is therefore a doubt at least for the upcoming trip to Nottingham Forest.
“We don’t know,” admitted Mikel Arteta.
“He’s in one [protective] boot right now. It was very uncomfortable and he could not continue playing. We need to scan him and see the extent of this injury.”
William Saliba
Arteta denied the reports, among them from Standard Sportthat Saliba is definitely ruled out for the season.
The French defender has struggled to overcome a back injury in recent weeks, picking up the problem against Sporting in March. A key concern is the hasty return of Saliba and the worsening of the problem.
“With William, it’s certain he won’t be fit for this game and we doubt he’ll be fit for the next game,” he said last week.
“But we want to keep hope alive and make sure we give ourselves the best chance to get back at them.”
Oleksandr Zinchenko
Likewise, the Arsenal boss remained optimistic about Zinchenko’s potential return despite his reported absence in recent weeks.
A calf injury kept him out against Brighton, with Kieran Tierney filling in at left-back.
Zinchenko was sent off in the second half of the recent win at Newcastle after catching the issue.
Takehiro Tomiiyasu
A knee injury will keep Tomiyasu out for the rest of the season, and possibly into next season.
Arteta recently admitted the full-back could be looking at a “six-month” return timetable after surgery on the complaint, picked up in the Europa League clash with Sporting.
Mohamed Elneni
Elneny is returning to light training after surgery on a knee problem at the end of January.
However, he is not expected to be close to returning to action until the start of preseason – a target return date that is on track to meet.
