The iconic song ‘Jumma Chumma’ since the family drama Hum (1991) has acquired a kind of cult following for generations. The dance floor steps with Amitabh Bachchan and Kimi Katkar have also become quite legendary. Recently, the choreographer of the track and popular dancer himself, Chinni Prakash, recalled the first time he had shown the hook step to Big B to get his approval.
On Weekend with Ramesh, Chinni Prakash reminisced about the time he wanted to know what Amitabh Bachchan had to say about his step ‘Jumma Chumma’. The choreographer revealed that the megastar found the step not only vulgar but also suggested that he change it. Chinni Prakash said, “He (Amitabh) saw the hook step I was going for ‘Jumma Chumma’ and said: “It is gross. What are you doing? It looks bad.” I said we could try something different, but then he suggested we try the steps and we could leave it later if it didn’t look good.”
However, Amitabh’s wife Jaya Bachchan approved the step and asked them to keep it. She was also convinced that it would become popular and be remembered by the public for generations. “When we saw the song after editing, Jaya Bachchan was also present and was happy to see this step. She said ‘This is the best step, people will not forget this.'” Jaya Ji felt that the hook step would was becoming a hit. Even though Amitabh wasn’t really okay with the hook step, it was Jaya ji who said that the hook step will be remembered by everyone even in the coming seasons. She even asked Amitabh Bachchan to keep the hook step in the song “, added the choreographer. .
