Tom Cruise will work with NASA for the new film

Tom Cruise is ‘hard at work’ on his planned spacewalk movie.

The 61-year-old actor was previously revealed to be working with Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman on a film set outside the surface of the Earth, and confirmed that the project is still going ahead, although no production start date has been set. Yet.

He told Variety: “We’re working diligently on it and we’ll see where it goes.”

Film bosses have revealed they hoped the Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One star would make history by blasting off into space for the film.

Universal Pictures chairman Dame Donna Langley told the BBC: “We have a great project in development with Tom that involves him taking a rocket to the Space Station.

“And hopefully he will become the first civilian to do a spacewalk outside the International Space Station.

“He will play a down-on-his-luck guy who finds himself in the position of the only person who could save the Earth.”

Plans for the film first surfaced in 2020 with Elon Musk’s SpaceX and NASA involved in the project.

Doug revealed in 2021 that he is “more confident” about making a space film after filming Locked Down in a deserted London amid the pandemic.

“But here’s the thing. When a producer pitches you something crazy, like, let’s try to make a movie in space, and NASA and SpaceX sign on, and Tom Cruise signs on… you’re a little more receptive when The same producer he says I got another crazy idea and that became Locked Down.”
