Rajkummar Rao will be seen in Raj and DK’s ‘Guns and Gulaabs’. The web series is set in the fictional world of ‘Gulabganj’ and promises to take the viewers back in time with its homage to Bollywood masala films of the 80s and 90s. Ahead of the release, Rajkummar spoke to IndiaToday.in about how Sunny Deol’s ‘Gadar 2’ helped bring audiences back to theatres.
RAJKUMMAR RAO CONGRATS SUNNY DEOL ON ‘GADAR 2’
Rajkummar Rao revealed that bringing the Indian audience back to the theaters was a difficult task. He also praised and congratulated Sunny Deol for the success of his latest film ‘Gadar 2’. The film, which released on August 11, has garnered positive response from the audience and has earned ₹135.8 crore at the box office.
He said, “I’m not sure what the context was for Sunny Sir, but I’m sure what he meant was to bring the audience back to the theatres, which is happening very well with ‘Gadar’, of course. Big kudos to him.”
RAJKUMMAR RAO ON THE MAGIC OF THEATRES
The actor further shared quotes from his early years about how watching a film was like a festival for everyone. He added, “We were mesmerized by the stories, I’m sure we were all in love with the cinema. Going to see a movie was like a big festival. There were no trailers, it was like this movie is coming out and everyone will go together as a family . I think that’s what’s missing. The magic of cinema, I think we need to get that back.”
“There was a phase where post-pandemic and during the pandemic people were very comfortable with the idea of it at home, but now I think for movies a lot of people are starting to come back to theaters, which is a great sign.” he added.
THE NEXT WORKS OF RAJKUMMAR RAO
On the professional front, Rajkummar Rao will next be seen in ‘Guns and Gulaabs’. He will share screen space with Dulquer Salmaan, Gourav Adarsh, Gulshan Devaiah, Shreya Dhanwanthary, Pooja A Gor and TJ Bhanu. Dulquer Salmaan will make his OTT debut with this web series. It will begin streaming on Netflix on August 18.
