Fans have been left baffled after pictures emerged of a Hollywood heartthrob's latest role
The British actor looks completely unrecognizable in his role in his latest film, The Book of Clarence.

Although the 47-year-old does not play the real Jesus in the film (that role has been taken over by Nicholas Pinnock), the actor's character is mistaken for the biblical figure and nailed to a cross.
Benedict Cumberbatch plays the role of Benjamin, who after meeting the real Jesus gains the ability to create new coins.
His newfound wealth comes with problems, however, as the Romans fear that he is another “messiah” who will disrupt their regime.

Also starring LaKeith Stanfield, James McAvoy and Caleb McLaughlin, the film hit theaters earlier this year.
However, in images from the film, fans were all saying the same thing – that they would never have recognized Cumberbatch in the role.
“I thought it was Nick Nolte until you said he was British,” one person wrote.
A second said: “He looks more like a caveman…”

However, others were more cautious.
“I can tell by his eyes he's Benedict Cumberbatch,” one concluded.
