Well, we just made that shuffle a whole lot easier. Here are all the best new movies to stream in May 2024, including a J-Lo-led sci-fi flick, one of the best sports movies of the past year, and one of Mia Goth’s best horror movies.

New movies streaming on Netflix in May 2024
Lola (May 2): The titular character works hard to save her little brother from their toxic home, but her world is turned upside down one fateful night.
Unfrosted (May 3): Jerry Seinfeld stars, writes and directs this true story about the battle between Kellogg’s and Post over the invention of the Pop Tart.
The Mother of the Bride (May 9): This one has everything you’d expect from a Netflix rom-com, like big plans for a wedding, old flames from the past, and family drama. If you like the sound of that, we also have a Mother of the Bride filming locations guide.
Thelma the Unicorn (May 17): A pony finally achieves her dream of becoming a magical unicorn in this animated Netflix original that looks perfect for kids.
Atlas (May 24): Jennifer Lopez is joined by Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown and Mark Strong for this sci-fi film. A battle against artificial intelligence to protect humanity follows in this effort from disaster movie expert Brad Peyton.

A24The Iron Claw (May 10): Zac Efron leads the cast of Iron Claw for a grim tale of the death of the infamous Von Erich family and their place in the wrestling world. Our review of The Iron Claw said:[This movie] it’s not something you should miss. Without one sad act after another, the film is about to become too difficult – but coming out on the other side makes viewers all the more enriched for the experience.”
Home Sweet Rome (May 15): A young girl moves to Italy with her dad and his new Italian pop star partner in this comedy.

The Idea of You (May 2): We can’t explain it, but this super cheesy rom-com is truly amazing. The Boys in the Boat (May 28): Directed by George Clooney, this film tells the inspiring true story of the University of Washington rowing team in 1936.

Dream WorksThe American Society of Magical Negroes (May 3): A secret group of magical Blacks band together to make white people’s lives easier in this satirical comedy.
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (May 10): A spinoff of the Shrek film franchise, this epic animated film is ultimate family fun.
Knock at the Cabin (May 24): M. Night Shyamalan can be hit and miss, but his latest was a solid hit. Read our Knock at the Cabin review to learn more about how this film “goes to a very dark place and manages to pack an equally powerful punch.”

NewProm Dates (May 3): For teenagers, getting ready for prom is a huge deal. So when Jess and Hannah break up with their dates 24 hours before the big night, they must find new dates or face a disastrous night to forget.
The Flood (May 3): It does what it says on the tin. A horror-thriller-disaster epic about a hurricane that brings high water and lots of alligators.
Wanted (May 10): Action icon Dolph Lundgren stars as a cop tasked with protecting an eyewitness from the cartel.
Eileen (May 10): Anne Hathaway is everywhere this month, so why not check out one of her most underrated gems from last year in this twisted thriller.
Birth/Rebirth (May 17): Psychological horror about the reanimation of the corpse of a young girl. How fun!
It went like this (May 17): Jacob Elordi and Zachary Quinto star in this crime-thriller road trip film.
Sweet East (May 17): A young girl from small town America discovers the wider world on a school trip to Washington.
Ferrari (May 24): Adam Driver and Penelope Cruz star in this biopic about the great Enzo Ferrari from acclaimed director Michael Mann. Unfortunately, this received a scathing one-star review from us, in which we claimed it was “a film that lacks so many elements of what it takes to be a film”.
Sympathy for the Devil (May 31): Nic Cage and Joel Kinnaman are in a dangerous game of cat and mouse that has a big twist.
