There’s nothing like sitting on the couch with some popcorn, ready to enjoy a night of relaxation, only to spend hours scrolling through your options with an ever-increasing dizziness. What a thrill! Just kidding, of course, but when there are so many choices of what to watch, we’re bound to experience decision fatigue.
So, break out of the slump this weekend and head to your local cinema.
Dare we say we’re living in a golden age of cinema? You might be thinking “well, that’s a bit much”, but this week alone we’ve had new trailers for upcoming movies Gladiator II and We live in Time. Plus the premieres of three more huge movies.
More than ever, movies are making a comeback. With A-list stars and exciting storylines, we are giddy with excitement as we sit in those cinema chairs and take on the next screening.
Here are three movies that desperately deserve your attention right now, as he suggests of Mamamia entertainment specialists.
Twisters
“The 90s are back in a big way twisters, the reboot of the iconic 1996 film, Tornado.
“Tornado experts Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell team up to tackle the tornadoes that have decimated towns across Oklahoma. This movie is campy, silly, but strangely compelling – I loved every minute of it. Glen Powell didn’t he was never more lovable.
“Twisters it was much better than i expected. It felt like such an old school epic, like Jurassic Park the indiana jones, but with a rom-com twist, as the chemistry between Daisy and Glen is electric.” – Senior Entertainment Writer Tara Watson.
Twisters is in theaters now, rated PG-13.
Kindness items
“The majority of headlines around Kindness items have focused on people walking out of theaters during preview screenings (including the one I attended), but this movie doesn’t just have a light dusting of controversy.
“Directed by Giorgos Lanthimos (whose previous works include Poor and The favorite) Kindness items is an anthology film featuring three standalone stories told through performances by Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, Mamoudou Athie and Hunter Schafer.
“Yes, this is a movie that will serve you scenes of sexual assault, murder, physical torture, cannibalism and licking of sweaty flesh in a cult to determine one’s purity, which makes it a slightly confrontational movie.
“However, it’s also visually stunning, filled with darkly comedic moments that will have you laughing (even if you’re feeling slightly guilty about it right now) and on the edge of your seat trying to figure out how watching these twists and turns will end stories.” – Head of Entertainment and his co-presenter The leak Laura Brodnick.
Kinds of Kindness is in theaters now, rated MA15+
Throw me to the moon
“Throw me to the moon starring Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum is one of my favorite enemies-to-lovers rom-coms of all time.
“Throw me to the moon it’s about the US racing to become the first nation to land on the moon. To speed up the process they need more funds and to get more funds they need the rest of the nation to care about Apollo 11 and so begins the big marketing plan to sell the moon. It’s hilarious, and clever, and the sets are beautiful.
“I know it’s not a typical ‘award winning’ kind of movie, but I want to see Woody Harrelson and Ray Romano RECOGNIZED. In my opinion, they were the standouts of this movie.” – Content producer and co-presenter The leak Emily Wernham.
Fly Me To The Moon is now in theaters, rated PG-13.
