1. Thappad – Amazon Prime Video
of Anubhav Sinha Article 15 took everyone by storm, so when Thappad released, the same was expected from it taking into account the response received in its trailer. The film hit the box office, received rave reviews and word of mouth. Amrita lives a happy life with her husband Vikram. But when her husband slaps her at a party, he makes her file for divorce. The film stars Taapsee Pannu, Pavail Gulati, Kumud Mishra and Ratna Pathak Shah.
2. Trapped – ZEE5
If Rajkummar Roa interpretation is what you love, Trapped is the true depiction of his ability as an actor. While the film failed commercially, director Vikramaditya Motwane was praised for touching the dark area and such an experimental theme. One day Shaurya is unintentionally trapped in his new apartment in a deserted high-rise building. Without food, water, electricity and help around, will he be able to survive and find his way?
3. Waiting – Disney + Hotstar
While the film may have failed to make money, Naseeruddin Shah and Kalki Koechlin are charming in this beautiful, moving string film from the beginning. The film is about some of the most difficult decisions we have to make in life and some great friendships that we end up making. Tara, a married woman, and Siv, an elderly professor, meet at a hospital where both partners are admitted. While the two continue to visit their spouses, they form an excellent friendship.
4. Mukkabaaz – ZEE5, Eros Now & Jio Cinema
Released internationally as The brawler, Anurag Kashyap’s Mukkabaaz premiered at the MAMI Film Festival and to be honest, it’s all that the creator is known for. Based on the true story, the film is wholehearted and solid. Starring Vineet Kumar Singh, Jimmy Shergill and Zoya Hussain, the film is about Shravan Singh, an aspiring boxer from the lower castes. He finds an enemy in Bhagwan Das Mishra, the head of a boxing federation. Things get harder for him when he falls in love with Mishra’s niece, Sunaina.
5. Meri Pyaari Bindu – Amazon Prime Video
Considering that for the longest time in Bollywood he loved cliché love stories, Ayushmann Khurana and Parineeti Chopra star Meri Pyaari Bindu they were all fresh and beautiful to understand. The movie makes you fall in love with its music, Calcutta and makes you nostalgic. A successful Abhimanyu writer suffers from a writing block and to write again, he returns to his hometown and decides to write a love story closer to his heart, talking about his only true Bindu love. The two dated for a while only for Bindu to realize that she does not love him as much as he does and has different ambitions in life.
