Mckenna Grace, his 15-year-old star Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which hit theaters on Friday, has a new single linked to the film.
The track, called “Haunted House”, was released on Thursday, along with a music video. Grace co-directed the video with Danny Corey and it was shot in a supposedly haunted house in Southern California on Halloween weekend, ET References.
Apparently following in the footsteps of Will Smith, who was known in the 1990s and early 2000s for releasing music for films in which he starred, the song is apparently thematically linked to the film and even appears in the end titles.
However, the song was not originally recorded for the film. Only when director Jason Wright heard it did he specifically ask to use it for the film’s closing credits.
This is not a bad start for the Emmy nominee’s music career, as it represents the first tune to be released since she joined Photo Finish Records last year.
Mckenna thought the song was the product of a “difficult period” in her personal life.
“During the pandemic I went through a difficult period in my personal life and I wanted to write a song about how, even when someone is no longer in your life, their memory never really leaves you… You could take it as a separation song “But it could also involve a friend or family member or any kind of relationship that has ended,” Mckenna said in a statement.
The song was written by Lily Kincade, which you can listen to here.
Although its critical reception Ghostbusters: Afterlife has been mixed, gathering 62% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is surprisingly lower than the reboot of 2016, the fans’ reactions to the film were much more positive, collecting an audience rating of 96% from the time of publication. The aforementioned 2016 ghost Busters has an audience rating of only 49%.
