“The catfish has been around for a while now,” jokes Emmy winner Peter Dinklage in his plot. Cyrano, the upcoming film music adaptation of Edmond Rostand Cyrano de Bergerac. The actor, who starred as the title character writing love letters to the object of his affection to help another man attract her, appeared in The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to perform the song “Your Name” from the film, along with Aaron and Bryce Dessner of The National, who composed the music. In an interview with Colbert, Dinklage admitted that he is not really a singer, but “does not have to be perfect,” he says. “The best singers are not necessarily opera singers, they just have a soul.” (Then he jokes that he has no soul, but at least he sings from the heart.)
The film also stars Haley Bennett as Roxanne and Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Christian, with Ben Mendelsohn, Bashir Salahuddin and Monica Dolan. Cyrano Directed by Joe Wright and written by Erica Schmidt (who is married to Dinklage), based on her stage music adaptation in 2018. The music of the Dessner brothers is accompanied by lyrics by Matt Berninger (also in The National) and Carin Besser .
The film premiered this fall at the Telluride Film Festival and will be released in theaters in January 2022, following a week of release in Los Angeles from December 17th.
