EXCLUSIVE: Reel Cinemas, the UK-based multiplexing chain with 15 websites and 78 screens, has appointed Moviegoers Entertainment to handle Bollywood programming.
As the exhibitor aims to carve out a larger chunk of the 15 15 million + ($ 20 million)’s annual UK Bollywood pie, filmmakers will undertake exclusive Hindi film programming for the chain, aiming to capitalize on hits such as p. χ. Sooryavanshi, who won .000 600,000 ($ 800,000) in the UK this year, and Padmaavat, which received 2 2.2 million ($ 2.9 million) in 2019.
Reel Cinemas was founded by Kailash Suri in 2001 and is planning a series of new openings in the coming years, the company said.
Moviegoers is directed by Pranab Kapadia and has previously collaborated with Mumbai-based filmmakers Gauri Shinde and R. Balki to co-produce two of their upcoming films.
Kapadia said: “We are excited to be running this link and building an exciting and regular stream of Bollywood movie releases in Reel cinemas. Like the recent performance of its box office Sooryavanshi starring Akshay Kumar showed us that the demand for theatrical experience is here to stay “.
