A moving holiday story with local ties, “A Cape Cod Christmas” will premiere in Falmouth this weekend with special star appearances.
The film tells the story of a children’s writer who seeks to organize one last Christmas dinner at her family home with her siblings and ends up reuniting with her childhood sweetheart and local artist who helps her find a way to keep the house.
The film was shot in the city a year ago, according to Cape Cod Times, and was written, directed and edited by John Stimpson, who works with H9 Films, a Worcester – based studio. The film will be released on Thursday on the AMC + streaming service for subscribers to watch until January 15.
The film will also be screened in two sold-out Woods Hole screenings this weekend for the benefit of the film festival, the Times reported. Stibson, as well as starring Katie Leclerc and Brent Bailey, will be present, talking about the film.
In addition, because the screenings coincide with the celebration of Falmouth’s Holidays by the Sea, the city’s Chamber of Commerce invited cast members to lead the 58th annual Falmouth Christmas Parade on Sunday, according to the newspaper.
Stibson told the Cape Cod Times that the film was created to pay tribute to the city, as it is such a big part of his life. He even based the film on his relationship with his wife.
“I have spent so many years in this area and με we spend our summers down there and it is such a special place for me,” Stibson told the newspaper. “It’s a community that is a part of me and the place means so much to me that I wanted to show it in a holiday way.”
This is not the only Christmas movie with ties in Massachusetts this year.
A new sequel to the hilarious Christmas classic entitled “Home Sweet Home Alone”, is available at Disney + and staring at two Massachusetts natives. In addition, Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds have been spotted shooting their new Christmas movie, “Spirited,” in Boston this fall.
