Every once in a while, a big-budget movie comes out that looks so awful that you know it will fall months before it is even released. Not only that, but you openly wonder why so much money is being spent on something that everyone knows will suck, and it would be much easier to set fire to a huge pile of cash.
Despite having a stellar ensemble and a talented director, Alex Proyas Gods of Egypt is definitely one of those movies. The concept sounded ridiculous, the special effects looked like the remnants of a PS1-era video game, and the studio even had to apologize for a whitewashing scandal before the mythological riot even saw the inside of a movie theater.
And yet, there is admittedly something a little weird about the whole thing. Do not misunderstand us. Gods of Egypt it sucks, and it sucks hard, but almost tragically. Chadwick Boseman is the only one who appeared to have the note that he appeared in an inadvertent classic camp cult and presents his interpretation as such.
Despite failing at the box office after recovering a $ 140 million budget and earning a Rotten Tomatoes review and user rating of 15% and 37% respectively, Gods of Egypt is an inexplicable success in streaming this week. According FlixPatrol, the ridiculously incompetent fantasy actor is currently the twelfth most-watched title on HBO Max. Why; Even these gods do not know.
