“Spider-Man” protagonist Tom Holland exchanges his web-shooters for dance shoes. The 25-year-old officially confirmed on Sunday that he will play the legendary actor, dancer and singer Fred Astaire in an upcoming biographical film about Sony.

In a recent profile for GQ, Oscar-nominated producer Amy Pascal teased that she wanted Holland for the role of Astaire in the upcoming film, as well as another “Spider-Man movie” trilogy.

But during an interview with the AP, at an event to promote the upcoming “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, Holland confirmed that he would be getting into the fun shoes of the entertainer for the project, which is still in its infancy. .

“The script came a week ago,” Holland said he told reporters. “I have not read it yet. they have not given it to me “.

However, Pascal received the script, Holland noted. “It made me FaceTimed earlier. “I was in the bathroom,” he said with a laugh. “And we had a great FaceTime, but I’ll play Fred Astaire.”

The news that Holland will take over the persona of the iconic singer and dancer is not surprising, given his history as a performer. Holland began his career as an actor on the London stage, playing the eponymous role in Billy Elliot the Musical in the West End from 2008 to 2010.

Then there is Holland’s most viral clip playing in “Lip Sync Battle” in 2017, where he sang and danced to a combination of “Singin ‘in the Rain” and Rihanna “Umbrella”. Sure, that number was Jean Kelly’s showcase in the 1952 musical, but it certainly made sense that Holland’s dancing skills were unquestionable.

Promoted as one of the greatest folk music dancers of all time, Aster has starred in more than 30 film musicals, in addition to his stage career on Broadway and the West End over a seven-decade career. Aster is usually remembered for his couples with Ginger Rogers, who starred in many films with him, including the classics “Swing Time”, “The Gay Divorcee” and “Top Hat”.

The film starring the Netherlands is not the only work by Fred Astaire currently in the works. Jamie Bell (who coincidentally played Billy Elliot in the 2000 Oscar-nominated film) will play Astaire alongside Margaret Qualley’s Ginger Rogers in an upcoming film from Amazon Studios and Automatik. Bell and Qualley will also produce the biographical film, which follows the dance duo’s collaboration, beginning with “Flying Down to Rio” in 1933 and ending with “The Barkleys of Broadway” in 1949.

Until it’s time to fit in as Astaire, Holland is focusing on his last appearance as Peter Parker at Sony and Marvel’s “No Way Home,” his seventh appearance as a web superhero.

“No Way Home” premieres in theaters on December 17.
