Irish actor Colin Farrell has officially signed on to star in and be the executive producer of a spinoff series. Batman in which he would play the Penguin again.
Farrell will play the malicious character first Batman starring Robert Pattinson, as reported by Variety. The series then goes on to delve into Penguin’s rise to power in Gotham’s criminal underworld. At the beginning of the series in September, Farrell was not stuck at the time.
The Penguin, also known as Oswald Cobblepot, is one of the most famous members of the Batman Rogues Gallery, recognized by its hat, monocle and wide variety of deadly umbrellas. In terms of live action, the character has been played in the past by actors such as Burgess Meredith, Danny DeVito and Robin Lord Taylor.
If the Penguin show goes ahead, it would be the second spinoff series from Batman on HBO Max. The streamer has already ordered a drama set in the Gotham Police Department, with Joe Barton as the presenter. It is part of WarnerMedia’s effort to launch a new interconnected Batman universe across all of its platforms.
Farrell is best known for his many film roles, earning accolades for starring in roles such as The lobster, in Bruges, and Seven Psychopaths. On television, he recently starred in the BBC and AMC Plus drama The Northern Water and starred in the past A true detective Season 2 on HBO. Most recently completed the shooting The Inisherin Banshees, who reunited him with me In Bruges Writer-director Martin McDonough and co-star Brendan Gleeson.
Lauren LeFranc is attached to write the script for the series. Together with Farrell, Batman Director Matt Reeves and filmmaker Dylan Clark would be executive producers of the Penguin series under their 6th & Idaho and Dylan Clark Productions banners respectively. Producer would be Warner Bros.
Batman is to be released on March 4, 2022.
