The protagonist of Shah Rukh Khan Swades, released in 2004, has aged like good wine. On Friday, fans of the film took to social media to celebrate the 17th anniversary of its release. By the way, director Ashutosh Gowariker shared an interesting anecdote about the film. His tweet contained two photos. While one showed Gowariker auditioning several elderly ladies on camera, the second photo was an iconic snapshot from the film, in which an elderly lady observes the view of electricity.
“In this 17th year of Swades, I share a BTS – 8 image of the 30 women I auditioned for Dadi Setu’s character. Everyone had to look up at the camera and say one word – BIJLI! The woman who said it with the greatest emotion, took the role. It was 102, “Ashutosh Gowariker wrote on Twitter.
As soon as the director shared the tweet, several fans remembered the “historic” scene. “You really made history with this movie. The best Indian movie for me definitely the best and @arrahman’s music takes this movie to another level. And your direction, I have no words for your direction. Slightly smiling face Excellent !! “We really want more from you,” one fan wrote on Twitter. Another Twitter user wrote: “One of the classic and best Indian movies ever made. It was far ahead of the season. “SRK was great, especially ‘this’ train scene, it still makes me emotional and in tears.”
“At a time when patriotism was not used to sell films. The Indian public was not ready for this masterpiece then. “It’s not yet,” he wrote in a tweet.
Swades was released three years after Gowariker Lagaan’s Oscar-nominated film starring Aamir Khan. In addition to Shah Rukh, Swades also starred in Gayatri Joshi and Kishori Ballal in leading roles, while Daya Shankar Pandey, Rajesh Vivek and Lekh Tandon appeared in supporting roles.
The film also saw Makrand Deshpande in a special appearance. Gowariker’s latest film was the critical and commercial frustration of Panipat.
