My first memory of Brian Levant Jingle All The Way has nothing to do with Christmas. The title was one of many old VCRs offered during an audiovisual period at the school. The other options were Dunston is checking in (1996), Lawrence Of Arabia (1962), Release Willie (1993), Jurassic Park (1993) and The adventure of Poseidon (1972). Despite the amount of emotion and action these titles offered, there was something calm and relaxing about watching a Christmas movie on a hot summer day at school.
Growing up in the age of GI Joe’s action figures, my fascination with Jingle All The Way first focused on the “Turbo Man” doll and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger – who plays a father who runs the city in a hurry for shopping. on Christmas Eve. to buy a toy for his son – to play a character that did not involve heavy weapons or murder. But the more I became involved with this film later in life, the more I understood its beautiful message about the relationship children have with their fathers.

I had an equation with my dad but like Jingle All The Way shows you, a father’s love is unquestionable. They may not always show their love, but they can do anything to fulfill the simplest promises. Schwarzenegger ends up wearing a superhero costume and a jetpack towards the end of this movie. And in real life, dads are superheroes. They just do not wear capes.

If Jingle All the Way it was all about “father power”, Chris Columbus’s Home Alone shows us the “power of the family” and how mothers are the glue that holds families together. Macaulay Culkin became a global sensation after playing Kevin McCallister in this 1990 film. While Culkin has since faded from the stage, Catherine O’Hara, who plays Kevin’s awesome but loving mother, is still fresh in memory thanks to her award-winning performances in the series. Schitt’s Creek.
There is much more to your liking Home Alone and its continuation, Home Alone 2: Lost In New York. Although he plays a negative role, Joe Pesci – as Harry, half of the “Wet Bandits” – makes you laugh every time. The rush of the Christmas holidays, the annoying cousins, the older siblings who love you more than they hate you, the lost flights, the movie within the movie (remember Angels with dirty souls?), huge Christmas trees and tons of snow — all of which make it his first two films Home Alone the franchise stands out from the sequels. The gold package? Mothers know you better.
The soundtracks and scores of the background Home Alone and Alone at Home: 2 are classic examples of how music can make you fall in love with a movie. Composer John Williams Somewhere in my memory is the soul of these films. These movies introduced me Run Rudolph Run (originally recorded by Chuck Berry in 1958) and the beautiful voice of Darlene Love on the rock ‘n’ roll track All alone at Christmas. Another notable Christmas rock song on your playlist this weekend could be Jingle Bell Rock, released by American country singer Bobby Helms in 1957 and featuring Alone at Home 2.

Speaking of families, how can any piece in the Christmas movies be complete without mentioning Tim Allen? Allen played Santa Claus Santa Claus trilogy but my favorite allen’s christmas movie is Christmas with the Kranks, the 2004 adaptation of the 2001 John Grisham novel, Bypassing Christmas. With Jamie Lee Curtis as Allen’s wife, the film follows a couple – known in the neighborhood for their Christmas Eve gatherings – who decide to skip Christmas a year after their daughter is missing. Instead, do they decide to spend it? on a cruise. A comedy of mistakes follows when the daughter decides to return in time for Christmas, with shopping accidents and a last minute party.
What passes is the spirit of Christmas and the power of community. We live in a time when trusting and believing in someone else can be difficult. But like Christmas with the Kranks shows, miracles happen when the community unites.

The most recent Christmas movie I watched a lot, it has a lot of “Christmas” – by Paul Feig Last Christmas (2019), which is based on the eponymous hit song of Wham! and includes pieces by the wonderful George Michael. I will admit it: I actually saw this movie on Christmas Eve last year, all alone. It was probably one of the quietest nights of 2020, a turbulent year for all of us.
Henry Golding, Emilia Clarke, Emma Thompson, who also wrote the screenplay, and Michelle Yeoh are part of a cast in this romantic Christmas comedy set in London, with a great background with Michael. Clark plays Kate, a careless clerk — dressed as an elf — in a Yeoh Christmas shop. Kate’s professional and personal life begins to look up when Tom, played by Golding, enters the picture.

Yes, the plot becomes predictable as the movie progresses, but there are some nice moments. There is a specific scene where Tom (Golding) and Kate (Clark) discuss her near-death experience and her failure to do anything important in life. He tells her: “There is nothing normal. It’s a stupid word. It does a lot of damage …. I think being special is overrated. I think it’s hard to just be human…. One thing someone told me helped me. “Every little action of the common day builds or restores character.” It just means that you are made of everything you do. And that’s okay. ” Sometimes, it’s okay not to be too hard on yourself.
So go ahead and sit down with your loved ones and grab your favorite hot drink. There is no right time to watch a Christmas movie. But they definitely feel a little sweeter on the day.
