Two Hollywood heavyweights are teaming up in a redemption story that trades in boxing gloves for a Bible.
Hollywood star Mark Wahlberg has been quite vocal about his Christian faith for some time, and it will come through in his newest role in the upcoming religious movie, Father Stu.
The movie is about a boxer-turned-priest Father Stuart Long and his inspiring journey from self-destruction to redemption, played by Wahlberg. Co-starring in the film is outspoken Christian actor Mel Gibson. The film is directed by Rosalind Ross.
“Father Stu’s journey from troublemaker to clergyman was inspiring to many, including me,” Wahlberg says in a statement shared with The Christian Post. “Rosey has done an incredible job capturing the essence of who he was and how he affected the people he met. I hope that with this film, we keep his spirit alive and continue his good works. ”
In multiple interviews on different talk shows, Wahlberg has shared his faith in God, and that it’s an important part of his life.
“I’ve been very blessed and very fortunate. And it’s because of the focus that I put on my faith and on my family that has allowed me to accomplish so many things.”
The movie is set to be released on April 15, Good Friday, this spring.
