Jessie Buckley Set to Return to the Screen for Film Based on a Novel
Jessie Buckley has been cast in a new dramatic film called Hot Milk which is based on a novel by Deborah Levy.
Irish actress Jessie Buckley is a true movie star in every sense of the way. She gave the performance of her career (so far) in the 2020 film, I’m Thinking of Ending Things and, thankfully, Buckley is not thinking of ending things any time soon in terms of her acting career. In fact, she has just been cast in the new forthcoming film Hot Milk which is going to be directed by the screenwriter of Colette, Rebecca Lenkiewicz. Let’s not mention that great performance Buckley gave last year opposite Olivia Colman in The Lost Daughter which could lead to an Oscar nod if the movie lands multiple Academy Award nominations like insiders predict it will.

Like The Lost Daughter, Hot Milk will be a movie that deals with complex human relationships. Buckley is cast as Sofia, a girl who travels to a Spanish clinic with her mom Rose (to be played by the always terrific Fiona Shaw who is best known to mainstream filmgoers for her turns in the Harry Potter movies and her hysterical work in Three Men and a Little Lady) in order to find a cure for the mother’s paralysis. Another actress that will be featured in the upcoming film is the superb Vicky Krieps (Old) who never disappoints. Krieps will portray Ingrid who Sofia befriends along the way. This film is, as stated, based on Deborah Levy’s novel.
Buckley is no stranger to making films about complex mother and daughter relationships after starring in the acclaimed The Lost Daughter, but she is also an actress who commands the audience’s attention whenever she’s on screen. In I’m Thinking of Ending Things, she was perfectly cast opposite Jesse Plemons and Toni Collette in a film that was masterfully crafted by the always intriguing Charlie Kaufman. Many people believed that Buckley turned in an Oscar-caliber performance in that picture, but she was overlooked for a nomination. One can only hope she can earn one this year for Best Supporting Actress as the young Olivia Colman in The Lost Daughter.
Hot Milk will be starting principal filming in Almeria later this year in September. HanWay Films will be representing the sales rights to the film worldwide, according to sources.
This upcoming movie’s director, Lenkiewicz, had also written the script for the controversial film Disobedience from several years back which starred Rachel Weisz and Rachel McAdams. It is only fitting for Buckley to be working with such a unique filmmaker coming off her work in director Maggie Gyllenhaal’s acclaimed The Lost Daughter. Gyllenhaal is said to be a shoo-in for a Best Director Oscar nod this year and when considering the performances of Colman and Buckley in the film, it’s a no-brainer to see why.
Jessie Buckley is a creative, and wonderful talent and her fans are eagerly anticipating seeing Hot Milk when it is released. No date has been set as of yet.
