The DuSable Museum of African American History and the Stelo Stories film studio work together to tell the story of a boy from West Africa who was abducted as a slave.

“Equiano.Stories” is a new movie that you can only see on Instagram. It brings to life the story of Olaudah Equiano, who was enslaved at the age of 11 in 1756. His life is told in a series of stories published over a period of 48 hours. Followers can watch Equiano’s life and journey as if he were living in the moment and posting about his day.

The film will start with Equiano as a carefree boy who will be kidnapped and taken on a slave ship.

“What this story focuses on is most important to us as educators of Black history,” said Perri Irmer, president and CEO of the DuSable Museum. “And this is the story of our origin, which begins with freedom, not slavery. And this story of origin has never really been told, so we are very excited and honored to take the story of Equiano to the new generations, to the younger generations, and really bring out the beauty of pre-slavery African life, which is so much is required. ”

The DuSable Museum will also have an exhibition in the village of Equiano to coincide with the release of the film. Visitors will have the opportunity to get to know the culture of West Africa and see pieces that the public has not seen before.

“Equiano.Stories” is based on the memoirs of Olaudah Equiano, which is one of the only first-hand accounts of slavery written by an African author.

The film premieres on Instagram on Wednesday. You can follow by following at @ Equiano.Stories. You can watch the movie trailer here.
