Apple Introduces New Version of iMovie with Storyboards and Magic Movie
IMovie 3.0 makes it easier than ever for anyone to share their video stories
Apple today unveiled a new version of iMovie with features that make it easier than ever to create beautiful edited videos on iPhone and iPad. Storyboards help aspiring content creators and filmmakers learn to edit and improve their storytelling skills with prefabricated templates for popular types of videos shared on social, with colleagues or classmates – videos like DIY, cooking lessons, product reviews , scientific experiments, etc. Storyboards make it easy to get started with flexible download lists and step-by-step guidance on the clips to shoot for each type of video. For those who want to create a video even faster, Magic Movie instantly creates a polished video from user-selected clips and photos, automatically adding transitions, effects and music to the editor. Both new features include a range of styles that help personalize the final look and feel of a video, including titles, filters, transitions, color palettes, and music, all designed to work together.
“IMovie has enabled millions of people around the world to create and share their stories via video,” said Bob Borchers, Apple Vice President of Global Product Marketing. “This latest version of iMovie, with Storyboards and Magic Movie, simplifies video creation even further and we believe it will continue to inspire the next wave of video creators to dive in and get started.”
Learn and improve video storytelling with Storyboards
Storyboards give users an important start in the video creation process, helping beginners learn to edit and improve their storytelling skills. Instead of starting with a blank schedule, creators can choose from 20 different storyboards with different popular video types, such as cooking lessons, questions and answers, product reviews, news reports and more. Each script has a list of downloads that organizes clips to tell a specific narrative. Each placeholder also includes a thumbnail, along with a tip asking a question or making a suggestion on how to pull this clip to make it more interesting. For additional customization, downloads can be added, rearranged, and deleted from a script as required.
Creators can experiment with different video styles, including titles and transitions, as well as options for title layouts, fonts, filters, and color palettes. The music tracks are dynamically adjusted to match the duration of a project and users can enhance each clip with handy editing tools such as crop, split, clip speed and clip volume.
Complete Storyboard videos are easily shared by iMovie via messaging, mail, and social media platforms.
Create videos instantly with the Magic movie
Magic Movie helps you create beautiful custom videos – with titles, transitions and music – with just a few taps. To create a Magic movie, a user simply selects an album or any group of photos or images from their library and the Magic Movie instantly identifies the best parts of the shots and creates the project. Creators can easily make their own rotation of a Magic movie by rearranging or deleting clips from the simplified Magic Movie download list or further editing the project. Styles can be added to change the look and feel of the entire video. Like Storyboard videos, Magic movies can be shared by iMovie via messaging, mail, and social media.
Availability
IMovie 3.0, including the new Storyboards and Magic Movie features, is available today as a free update to the App Store for devices with iOS 15.2 or later and iPadOS 15.2 or later.
