1. Hot Fuzz (2007)

Writer Thomas Wolfe once said that you can not go home again. It may. But you can always blow it up. This is what Edgar Wright began to do in an emblematic way Hot Fuzz, the second and best of the legendary Cornetto Trilogy by himself and co-writer Simon Pegg. Filmed at Wright’s home in Wales, Somerset – a “cathedral” (read: village) in the south of England – the director has returned to his old hangouts to create an incredible cast based on the scripts of police friend Shane Black and the camera Michael Bay moves.
His genius Hot Fuzz, however, is that it does not start that way. Initially, it was a caustic sardonic satire of the bucolic English countryside and of the prestigious BBC television type that could be played there. In other words, it’s hell on earth for the policeman of the big city of London, Nicolas Angel (Pegg). But as he and the unfortunate action movie geek Danny Butterman (Nick Frost) reveal a murder plot across the community, their world is slowly being transformed into the Hollywood cheesfests of Danny’s DVD collection. The last 20 minutes is a glorious crescendo of action movie clichés and bursts of laughter that still resonate 15 years later. – DC
