“I like CVs, but this is not really a CV, right? It’s really about me in the ’50s and’ 60s and ’70s,” Luhrmann said. “And if you want to talk about America in the ’50s and’ 60s and the ’70s at the heart of culture, for good, for bad and for bad, it’s a figure [like] Elvis Presley. Like how Shakespeare would take a historical figure as king and explore a big issue, or Amadeus it’s not really about Mozart when you learn so much about Mozart, it’s about jealousy. What this movie is talking about is America in these three seasons – Elvis the Revolutionary, Elvis the highest paid actor in Hollywood and Elvis the living legend, the icon trapped in this hotel not 10 minutes from here, from a a man named Colonel Tom Parker. “
