Baz Luhrmann’s long-awaited biographical film about Elvis has received critical acclaim since its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, with Austin Butler being praised for his performance as the late legend.
The film even received 12 minutes of standing ovations, the biggest applause at this year’s festival so far, according to Varietywith Austin becoming emotional as the applause continued.
The drama follows Elvis and his rise to superstar, aided by controversial manager Col. Tom Parker (played by Tom Hanks) as a young boy in Memphis becomes an international star.
Elvis famously died at the age of 42 at his home in Graceland in 1977. The cause of death was considered to be heart failure.
It was originally scheduled to be released last November, before being rescheduled for 2022.

When does Elvis go to the movies?
Elvis will hit theaters in the UK and US on June 24.
The official summary says: “Elvis’s story is seen through the prism of his complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker.
According to Parker, the film delves into the complex dynamics between the two that spans over 20 years, from Presley’s rise to fame to his unprecedented celebrity debut, against the backdrop of an evolving cultural landscape and the loss of innocence in America.
“Central to this journey is one of the most important and influential people in Elvis’s life, Priscilla Presley.”
Who is in the Elvis cast?
The 30-year-old former Disney star, Austin, plays the legendary king of Rock ‘n’ Roll, which marks his first big starring role. He starred in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in 2019 and starred in the TV series The Carrie Diaries and Zoey 101.
Olivia DeJonge, 24, is currently starring in HBO Max The Staircase, plays Priscilla Presley, the actress and ex-wife of Elvis.
Tom stars as Colonel Tom Parker, a Dutch music businessman who managed Elvis from 1955 until the singer’s death in 1977.
The Power of the Dog Kodi Smit-McPhee plays Jimmie Rodgers, while Waves actor Kelvin Harrison Jr. starring as BB King.
The cast also includes David Wendham, Dacre Montgomery and Chaydon Jay as the young Elvis.
Austin told a news conference in Cannes that he had spent two years preparing for the role, revealing: “I basically put the rest of my life on hold for two years and just absorbed what I could.
“I just got out of the rabbit hole of obsession. And I split his life into periods where I could hear the differences in how his voice changed over the years and how his movement changed over the years and I spent two years studying, trying to find his humanity as best I could. that.’
Is there a trailer for Elvis?
Yes, there is a trailer and it was officially released earlier this year, giving us our first look at Austin in the role.
The trailer shows Austin’s Elvis sending the crowd frantic as he transforms into the legend that shakes his hips, goes through a show and leads fans to collapse – with their screams drowning out his voice.
Elvis is set to hit theaters on June 24.
