They did it again, yes. They made it again.
Resident Evil has received adaptations over the years, from movies to TV shows, and now, Netflix’s latest TV series, simply called Resident Evil, has fallen as part of it TV schedule 2022. And it is a noisy.
Let me say – I’m a fan of original games. I’ve played many old versions of it on my brother’s game consoles and I’ve played some of the more recent ones on my own PS5. I have watched each Resident Evil film, and we saw many other adaptations as well. But, not everyone is like me, who has been addicted to video games since she was a young lady – and I expect only a few another horror game to adapt but from Resident Evil.
If you don’t know anything about this franchise or what the series is about, look no further as we have six quick things you should know before watching Resident Evil Season 1.
Resident Evil Season 1 is eight episodes
Do not worry. Resident Evil is not like Stranger Things, and you won’t sit down for four-plus hours just to watch two episodes. With Netflix Resident Evil Series, there are eight episodes in Season 1 – with most of them lasting between 40-50 minutes. The premiere episode and finale alone are over an hour long — which is, frankly, to be expected at this point as far as streaming shows go.
Resident Evil is a post-apocalyptic survival show with a hint of mystery
As someone who has played the original Resident Evil games, this version of Resident Evil it’s not really like the old games. While there were plenty of zombies in the games, there was never a crazy post-apocalyptic world in the original. However, this news Resident Evil really leaning towards it.
The main plot takes place between two timelines, one in 2022, where the Wesker family moves to a place called “New Raccoon City” (a nod to the original game), with their father and the Umbrella Corporation harboring dark secrets – and then flash forward to 2036, where the older Jade is trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world in the years after a deadly pandemic.
It’s not the most prototype plotline ever, but if you’re a fan of Netflix’s zombie shows, such as We are all dead or even Santa Clarita Diet, you will find something to enjoy.
The original Resident Evil character Albert Wesker is a huge part of this series
If you’re not a huge fan of the video game series, Albert Wesker is a huge part of it Resident Evil franchise and a large part of the original games, and in the show on Netflix, it’s a large part of it Resident Evil moldas played by Lance Reddick, known for his role as Cedric Daniels The wire. But, don’t worry – you really don’t need to know much about Albert going in, as you learn a lot as the story progresses.
Resident Evil is a horror series with a bit of twisted humor
What seems to happen with a lot of other horror franchises these days is that there’s some humor mixed in – horror comedies they are some of the best movies, in my opinion. Why not scare the crap out of yourself and laugh the next minute? That’s what Resident Evil he’s got.
While the moments of comedy are nothing compared to the horror of the post-apocalyptic show, there is still some twisted humor that I think people who like dark comedy will enjoy.
As I said before, there are a lot of nods to the Resident Evil franchise here, such as the names of the characters, some titles for cities, and even the appearance of some of the monsters. You can definitely tell there are hints of the original Resident Evil franchise was, and is one of the strongest customizations yet.
But you don’t need to know much about the previous Resident Evil games and movies to jump in
That doesn’t mean you have to know anything about the game series to enjoy this show. I’ll be honest, I want a faithful adaptation like every other fan and this show for sure not loyal to games or close to movies. Like I said, the games serve as a foundation for much of the world, but other than that, there’s really no connection.
Even so, if you like zombie shows or any post-apocalyptic/dystopian series, this might be a fun time for you. It is not one show like The Walking Dead or something, but there’s plenty of horror, action and some decent monsters that are sure to make you squirm in your seat.
What do you think will be the next Netflix horror adaptation? You think Resident Evil will it get a season 2? Only time will tell.
