According to the biography of Cunningham — the director of the original Friday 13th – in his own official Cameo page (via Bloody Disgusting), it looks like a new movie is coming sometime in the future. “Sean S. Cunningham directed and produced the landmark horror film Friday 13th, creating the iconic villain Jason Voorhees. The film has spawned 12 installments with a 13th slated for next year,” reads the official bio.
A new film would be a surprise for the franchise, which has been mired in legal trouble for nearly 20 years. For those who don’t know, Cunningham and Victor Miller (the writer of the original film) have been locked in a legal battle over the rights of Friday 13th property.
A few years ago, a judge ruled that Miller owns the rights to the film’s original script, although Cunningham is the one who owns the rights to the adult version of the iconic Jason Voorhees.
