The recent 67th Filmfare Awards was truly a festival of Indian Cinema with many films bagging some prestigious awards. From Shershaah to Sardar Udham, some of these films won big, taking home most of the technical awards. And the best actor award went to Ranveer Singh for his portrayal of Kapil Dev in the sports-based biopic ’83 which also featured Deepika Padukone as his wife Romi Dev.

A video of the award ceremony found its way online where we saw an excited Ranveer Singh also bringing Deepika Padukone on stage. The announcement was made by their friend and popular director Karan Johar. Ranveer accepted the award saying, “Ranveer Singh powered by Deepika Padukone”.

He then also expressed his gratitude for this honor and thanked everyone for it. He said, “The last few years have been great. This is the 4th Filmfare in about 6 years which is pretty awesome. I have had the privilege of working with some of the best filmmakers in the country. I credit them with this (trophy). This achievement is only possible because they believe in me and believe that I can be part of their vision and contribute as an artist and bring to life the story they want to tell.”
He added, “This was a very special place and once I am done with my responsibilities here, I will call Kapil Dev sir. I can’t wait to talk to Kapil Paaji and connect with him and tell him that this is for him. To win 5 Filmfare Awards for Best Actor is incredible and it’s really humbling.”
Directed by Kabir Khan, ’83 featured an ensemble cast that played the role of the Indian Cricket Team of the 80s. The film recreated India’s iconic victory in the 1983 World Cup match where their team played the match against England at the Lords Stadium. Apart from Ranveer Singh, the film also featured Harrdy Sandhu, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Ammy Virk and Saqib Saleem among others. The film was released in December 2021.
On the work front, Ranveer Singh will next be seen in Rohit Shetty’s Circus which also stars Pooja Hegde and Jacqueline Fernandez. It is also directed by Karan Johar Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani starring opposite Alia Bhatt, with Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi and Jaya Bachchan. While Circus expected to be released by the end of this year, Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani it is said to hit the big screens next year.
