Hollywood actors David Harbor and Orlando Bloom have signed a deal to star GranTurismo, Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions’ upcoming adaptation of the hit racing video game series directed by Neill Blomkamp (Elysium).
Gran Turismo: Orlando Bloom Joins David Harbor in Racing Movie Adaptation
According to The Hollywood Reporter, written by Jason Hall (American sniper) and Zach Baylin (King Richard) and based on a true story, the project is described as the ultimate wish-fulfillment story of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won him a series of Nissan competitions to become a real professional racing driver.
The film also stars budding actor Archie Madekwe. According to the report, Madekwe plays the teenager, with Harbor as the retired driver who teaches him to drive. Bloom will play a hungry marketing executive who sells the sport of auto racing and may also believe in his craft. Filming starts next week in Europe. “As one of PlayStation’s longest-running and most beloved franchises, it’s great to be working with Columbia Pictures again to bring Gran Turismo to life in an exciting way,” said PlayStation Productions producer Asad Qizilbash. “We can’t wait for audiences to see Neill’s vision for this inspiring true story of a player turned professional race car driver.”
Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan of PlayStation Productions, as well as Doug Belgrad and Dana Brunetti, are producing. Game creator Kazunori Yamauchi and Hall are both executive producers.
Gran Turismo is slated to hit theaters on August 11, 2023.
