Scooby-Doo cartoon character Velma now identifies as a lesbian. In clips from the latest Scooby Doo movie, Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo!, the ridiculous character is left speechless after meeting a female character. The video goes viral on Twitter, confirming long-held suspicions about the ‘Scooby’ fan.

Speaking of the clip from a new Halloween special, Velma finds herself meeting a famous costume designer, Coco Diablo. For the uninitiated, Coco is responsible for several villains the gang has uncovered. In the viral video, instead of her usual confidence, Velma is suddenly speechless while ticking off a list of admirable traits, including “obviously bright” and “loves animals!”

Earlier in 2020, director James Gunn revealed that he had tried to make the beloved character gay, but it was ultimately shot down. Meanwhile, during Pride Month 2020, Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated Producer Tony Cervone appears to have confirmed Velma’s sexuality in an Instagram post.
In the post, Velma was seen standing in front of a rainbow background alongside Marcie. In the caption, Tony wrote: ‘Obviously I don’t represent every version of Velma Dinkley, but I am one of the main people who represent her. We made our intentions as clear as we could ten years ago. Most of our fans got it. To those who haven’t, I suggest you take a closer look. There’s no new news here.”
Returning to Trick or Treat Scooby-Doothe script of the animated film is Daniel McClellan, Laura Pollack and Audie Harrison.
