Kantara’s Hindi dubbed version gives stiff competition to the recent Diwali outings of Bollywood A-listers: Akshay Kumar starring Ram Setu and Ajay Devgn’s Thank God. According to reports, exhibitors have slowly started replacing the shows of the two Bollywood films with the Kannada blockbuster.
KantaraIts Hindi dubbed version has reached around ₹40 crore in 16 days with positive word of mouth and widespread critical acclaim. Ram Setu and Thank God Meanwhile, they were weak at the box office.
According to a Bollywood Hungama report, due to the extremely poor performances of Thank God and Ram Setu, the developers are now reducing the screening of the films by a “huge margin”.
After a 6-day layoff performance from both its Hindi releases—Ram Setu at around Rs 55 crore and Thank God at Rs 27 crore—Kantara is still standing tall and looking to go from strength to strength in its third week, with box office of approx 40% lower than Ram Setu and 30% lower than Thank God, the report said.
Ram Setu and Thank God saw reductions in shows for Saturday and Sunday – with extra shows given to Kantara. While the decrease in viewership was minimal for the weekend, a large portion of the shows of the two Hindi editions from Monday will either be canceled or replaced.
“Distributors have been given strict instructions to maintain limited exposure and avoid the negativity of shows being canceled due to zero audience. Some morning and noon shows have already been canceled for Monday and things are not looking good for both Ram Setu and Thank God,” the report said.
Written and directed by Rishabh Shetty, Kantara has now emerged as Kannada’s second biggest hit after KGF: 2. Produced by Hombale Films, the production house of KGF films, Kantara also stars Sapthami Gowda, Kishore and Achyuth Kumar. .
