Movie Kantara Controversy
Dalit organizations have condemned the portrayal of Dalits in the pan-Indian Kannada super hit film ‘Kantara’. Samatha Sainik Dal Lolaksha Deputy Minister stated that the film insulted Dalits. “The Dalit community has been portrayed in a bad light,” he said, alleging that the ‘Daivaradhane’ sequences in the film are twisted.
He had also raised objections to the film’s highlight, the final 20-minute climax. Lolaksha had stated that they will first convey their objections to the film team. If their objections are not taken seriously, they will initiate legal proceedings against the film crew. The film, however, was mired in controversy as a band claimed that one of the songs used in the film was theirs and Kannada actor Chetan Ahimsa stated that “Daivaradhane” is not part of the Hindu religion as depicted in the film.
Rajinikanth gifts golden souvenirs to Rishab Shetty
Superstar Rajinikanth presented actor-director Rishab Shetty with a gold chain and locket for the success of his latest release ‘Kantara’. Rajinikanth had recently called Rishab Shetty for a personal meeting at his residence in Chennai where he gifted him a gold chain and a gold locket for his super hit movie Kantara. Rajinikanth was also seen praising the film while calling it a once in 50 years film. This again added an extra feather to the rising glory of ‘Kantara’.
The story of the film Kantara
Set in the fictional village of Dakshina Kannada, Kantara follows a Kampala champion, played by Shetty, who clashes with an upstanding Forest Range officer, Murali (Kishore). Kampala is an annual race, held from November to March in coastal Karnataka, in which a rider leads a pair of buffaloes tied to a plow through parallel muddy tracks.
“Kantara” released in Kannada and Hindi versions on September 30 and October 14 respectively. The film is written and directed by Rishab Shetty. Produced by Vijay Kiragandur and Chaluve Gowda under Hombale Films, the film features Rishab Shetty, Sapthami Gowda and Kishore Kumar G in lead roles.
