The 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) concluded its 9th day in Goa on Monday with the closing awards ceremony. In the presence of Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr L Murugan and Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, the winners were announced. Among them, the Spanish drama I have Electric Dreams won the grand prize in the Best Film category, followed by Vahid Mobasheri and Daniela Marin Navarro as the best actors.

Best Film – I Have Electric Dreams
Best Actress (Female) – Daniela Marin Navarro, for I Have Electric Dreams
Best Actor (Male) – Vahid Mobasheri, for No End
Best Director – Nader Saeivar, for No End
Best Debut Feature Film – Asimina Proedrou, for Behind the Haystacks
Special Jury Prize – Lav Diaz, for When The Waves Are Gone
Special Mention to a first feature film director – Praveen Kandregula, for Cinema Bandi
ICFT UNESCO Gandhi Medal – Payam Eskandar, for Nargesi
Indian Cinema Personality of the Year – Chiranjeevi
At the award ceremony, Anurag Singh Thakur said, “IFFI not only entertained us but also educated us. IFFI has opened up a colorful world of cinema to audiences across the region, young and old, new and festival veterans. We reciprocated Country of Honor status at Cannes by welcoming France as the Country of Focus, marking 75 years of diplomatic ties with France and also India celebrating 75 years of India’s independence.”
“The advent of diverse cinema streams, advanced affordable headsets and cheaper data prices is leapfrogging pure individual talent to showcase powerful and captivating stories to the world,” he added.
First held in 1952, IFFI is organized every year to provide a common platform for the best cinema at an international level to showcase the excellence of cinematography across the world. A total of 280 films from 79 countries were screened during the 9-day festival.
