Believe it or not, 2022 has come to an end. The year brought so many new Netflix movies and shows that dominated watch lists, including titles like The Gray Man, Wednesday, Purple Hearts, Manifesto, and its blockbuster fourth season Stranger Things.
As we all reflect on (and even mourn) what we thought were the best movies and shows of the year shows where it will soon end in 2023), another new year full of amazing titles will be here before we know it. In true Netflix fashion, January 2023 won’t leave us without something to watch.
The new year kicks off with a brand new original series on New Years and the rest of the month features the returns of Ginny & Georgia and Vikings: Valhalla. Throw in a new comedy reboot and a movie star making his movie debut on Netflix, and it’s the makings of a great start to the year.
New Netflix Movies January 2023
In December, Netflix introduced high-profile films such as Lady Chatterley’s Lover, Glass Onion, and White noise. But so far, January 2023 is off to a quieter start when it comes to new Netflix movies. Stay tuned for more announcements on upcoming original films!
The Pale Blue Eye
Release Date: January 6th
Christian Bale makes his Netflix original film debut The Pale Blue Eye, based on the novel of the same name by Louis Bayard. Bale stars as Detective Augustus Landor, who in 1830 investigates a series of murders at West Point, New York. The film, which opens on January 6, also stars Gillian Anderson, Lucy Boynton, Robert Duvall and Henry Melling as Edgar Allan Poe.

Release Date: January 27th
From director Kenya Barris, Netflix’s new original comedy film You people Starring Jonah Hill, Lauren London, Eddie Murphy, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, David Duchovny and Nia Long. In the film, an interracial couple and their families clash over culture, social expectations and other family dynamics to a hilarious yet tense extent. Catch the R-rated film on January 27.
New Netflix show in January 2023
Luckily, Netflix is kicking off the new year with two new seasons that fans have been waiting for, as well as a series premiere that will have everyone talking. Check out some of the biggest new Netflix shows coming to watchlists throughout January.
Ginny & Georgia Season 2
Release Date: January 5th
Almost two years after the premiere of the successful comedy-drama series Ginny and Georgia, the fan favorite is finally back for next season. The mother-daughter drama picks up from the shocking finale and there are sure to be many new heartwarming moments in Season 2. Don’t miss the much-anticipated season premiere on January 5.
Vikings: Valhalla Season 2
Release Date: January 12th
Less than a year after its debut Vikings: Valhalla on Netflix, the series returns with its second season on January 12. The action and adventures are just beginning as Season 2 picks up after the fall of Kattegat. Fortunately, the show has already been renewed for a third season, so fans don’t have to worry when Season 2 ends.
That 90s show
Release Date: January 19th
Hello, Wisconsin! It’s time to return to Foreman’s basement with a new generation of teenagers. Netflix debuts That 70s show spinoff reboot That 90s show, which focuses on Eric and Donna’s daughter Leia spending the summer with her grandparents Red and Kitty. Prepare to catch up with our old friends and meet the new kids on the block on January 19th.
