In the two decades since then The Mummy reboot starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, the action-adventure reboot has become even more popular, and was also a big hit at the time. Movie buffs who were young when the two films were released are now adults who have a lot of nostalgia for them. The two movies, and the third movie that arrived later that Weisz wasn’t involved with, are staples of online movie fandom, and now they all have a new streaming home. Anyone who wants to watch The Mummy, The mummy returnsand The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperorthrough a streaming service you now have one option, Hulu, which began streaming all three titles earlier this month.
With all the continued fan interest in The Mummy films in recent years, and Fraser’s own return to the limelight thanks to his award-winning performance in The Whale, talk of the series and the potential for a new one has never been higher. Fraser has been on it lately as well. While he was talking to GQ in one of their trademarks “Destroys most iconic characters,” he was briefly asked about returning for a new one, replying simply: “Absolutely. Do you have a script?”
Fraser was also outspoken when working on the films about certain issues, including the infamous visual effects of Dwayne Johnson’s Scorpion King which has become a hot topic of mockery. The actor was quick to defend it and the visual effects artists who created it, but even he can admit it’s not the best.
While fans may also be hoping and praying for a Mummy 4 with Fraser and Weisz returning, the studio’s previous attempt to do something with the franchise was the abysmal Tom Cruise reboot of the property. Fraser has even mentioned in the past why he thinks this film failed to connect with audiences in the same way as his original trio of films.
“It’s hard to make this movie,” Fraser admitted Variety. “The ingredient we had for us Mummy, which I didn’t see in that movie, was fun. That was what was missing in this incarnation. It was very much a straight horror movie. The Mummy it should be an exciting ride, but not scary and scary.”
If you wish to return to the emotional nature of these Mummy movies, head over to Hulu to watch them again.
