Level

Gerard Butler has become the unofficial king of wild action and disaster movies over the last decade, with titles like GEOSTORM, GREENLAND and OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN and its various sequels. Well, that trend will continue on January 13, 2023, when PLANE takes off.

The film, which looks like a good way to inject some action into your cold winter weekends, sees Butler play commercial pilot Brody Torrance as he teams up with accused murderer Louis Gaspard (Mike Colter) to save a plane with passengers from a Filipino. militia after a forced landing. A simple but effective affair for sure, PLANE could be the surprise hit of January once it gets off the ground.

John Wick: Chapter 4

Over the past 30 years, Keanu Reeves has helmed not only action films, but also iconic cinematic experiences such as POINT BREAK, SPEED, the MATRIX films and the JOHN WICK franchise. On March 24, 2023, Reeves will return to the silver screen for JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 4, the long-delayed next installment in the action series about a reluctant assassin just trying to live out the rest of his days in peace and quiet without the shadowy High Table he’s coming for his head.

It’s hard to put into words how excited we are for the return of Baba Yaga as she tries to, once and for all, end things, even if it means taking on every contract killer between New Jersey and Paris in the process. And, that anticipation grows even more when you consider the debut of characters played by living legends like Donnie Yen, Clancy Brown and Hiroyuki Sanada.

Quick X

The boys and girls of summer will return for another round of high-octane action with the May 19, 2023 premiere of FAST X, the 10th and possibly penultimate chapter in the super-hit FAST & FURIOUS franchise. And while we still don’t know much about the plot outside of Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and the company being forced to take on a returning Cipher (Charlize Therron) and the new Dante (Jason Momoa), it’s safe to say that fans series will be there, no questions asked.

With the way the franchise has progressed since the need for a refresh with 2011’s FAST FIVE, we can’t even say the sky – or space – is the limit, as the previous films have been there and done so spectacularly. However, we are not going to be upset if we have a full-on drag race in space that defies the laws of nature, physics and science.

FAST X opens May 19

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1

If someone told you 20 years ago that Tom Cruise would be 60 years old and still put his life on the line for the sake of a movie experience, you’d probably say “that’s impossible.” Well, as absurd as it may have sounded at the time, the actor who is also a great stuntman did just that for the upcoming MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – DEAD RECKONING PART 1, which opens in theaters on July 14, 2023.

Although little has been revealed about the film, other than some exciting action set pieces shown in its trailer, anyone who has seen any of the previous MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE films knows that the film will be one thrilling moment after another, especially whenever Ethan Hunt of Cruise running away from and into danger.

The equalizer 3

The powerhouse actor-director duo of Denzel Washington and Antoine Fuqua will reunite for a fifth collaboration on September 1, 2023 for the release of THE EQUALIZER 3, with Washington once again playing former United States Marine and DIA officer Robert McCall. Plot details are being kept under wraps at the moment, but one thing we do know is that Dakota Fanning is set to appear alongside Washington, the first time they’ve shared the screen since they co-starred in Tony Scott’s 2004 action thriller MAN ON FIRE.

The first two installments of the franchise, released in 2014 and 2018 respectively, were both entertaining action films that did decently at the box office, so there’s no reason to believe THE EQUALIZER 3 won’t do the same when kicks off the fall movie season.

Consumables 4

On September 22, 2023, action movie fans of yesteryear and today will rejoice when THE EXPENDABLES 4 opens in theaters and takes audiences on yet another wild ride with the titular mercenaries led by Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren and Randy Couture. But these four won’t be alone when the massive action flick hits the silver screen, as Megan Fox, Tony Jaa, Iko Weiss, Andy Garcia and Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson are also set to appear.

Details are scarce on the plot in THE EXPENDABLES 4, but let’s be real here, everyone who wants to see this movie will do so no matter what, including ourselves.

These are just a few of the promising action movies we’re excited to see coming to AMC Theaters in 2023, as there are tons of exciting titles set in the Marvel and DC Comics universes as well.
