Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India]January 29 (ANI): Amidst the nationwide frenzy ‘Pathaan’, the latest Bollywood film starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone has filled cinema halls in Srinagar to the brim.
After almost 32 years, Kashmiri film buffs are coming in large numbers to watch this film at the INOX multiplex in Srinagar.
INOX Srinagar was inaugurated last year with a special screening of Aamir Khan Starrer ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’. The multiplex was inaugurated by Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha on September 20 last year.
A local film buff while talking to ANI said, “They are happy that after almost 32 years they are seeing films like ‘Pathaan’ in this multiplex and hope that film culture will gradually grow in Kashmir Valley.
“We didn’t expect such a response. Cinema culture is growing fast here which is good. All the shows are full house. We hope the shows will continue to be full house next week as well,” said Vikas Dhar, owner of INOX Multiplex, Srinagar.
He continued, “I feel happy that our multiplex is being housed for the last 4 days. Younger’s are coming in large numbers to watch this super hit movie at this multiplex.” Dhar also said that many more multiplexes should be opened across the Kashmir Valley.
Earlier, Inox Leisure Ltd, shared a post on its Twitter handle on January 26, mentioning how the film helped rake in cash in Kashmir after a long hiatus.
The post read “Today, with #Pathaan frenzy gripping the nation, we are thankful to KING KHAN for bringing the precious sign #HOUSEFULL back to Kashmir Valley after 32 years! Thanks ShahRukhKhan @iamsrk @thejohnabraham @deepikapadukone @YRF @Patha #YRF50.”
Kashmiris used to throng theaters and enjoy cinema like other parts of the country, before the upsurge of militancy that crippled Kashmir in 1989, forcing cinema owners to down shutters.
Cinemas were banned by a militant group called the ‘Tigers of Allah’ and the state’s youth were deprived of their main dose of entertainment for almost three decades due to political unrest.
Meanwhile, “Pathaan” has received a massive response from the viewers and SRK’s audiences worldwide have warmly welcomed the actor to his film after four years. The film also entered the Rs 100 crore club on its opening day.
With each passing day, ‘Pathaan’ is setting a new record as audiences across the country shower their unconditional love on this spy thriller. (A I)
