ROME — This weekend is busy at the Capitol Arts Complex, 220 W. Dominick St., with a new lineup of 1990s animated films.
The series will air on Friday, March 10 at 7 p.m. and the 95th Academy Awards Watch Party at Cinema Capitol will take place on Sunday, March 12 at 7 p.m.
On Friday, March 12, the “Y Not 2k” Millennium Film Series kicks off with a screening of “The Rugrats Movie.” The film is a 1998 animated feature film adapted from the Nickelodeon series “The Rugrats”.
The one-night-only showing of “The Rugrats Movie” begins at 7pm at the Capitol Theatre.
Be sure to join in starting at 5:30 p.m. for some ’90s-themed fundraising activities, as the Utica Vintage Club will be performing inside the theater.
There will be clothing from the 90s and early 2000s, nostalgic media and memorabilia.
“The Rugrats Movie” first hit theaters in 1998 and was the first Rugrats feature-length theatrical film. In the movie, babies get lost in the woods after Tommy Pickles gets a new sibling.
The screening is presented in part by Rome’s newest cafe, superofficial, 216 W. Dominick St., and Utica Vintage Club, 421 Seneca St., Utica.
Super Official Co-Owner Caitlin Matwijec-Walda said she was excited to celebrate the millennial resurgence currently being experienced in fashion, film and television.
“Everything old is new, and of course, being millennials ourselves, we wanted to do everything we could to make these shows happen at the Capitol,” Matwijec-Walda said.
“It’s exciting to co-sponsor this series with the Utica Vintage Club as both of our businesses celebrate and appreciate the millennium as it is experienced today, with thrift, revisiting of older movies and TV shows, and even a decidedly lo-fi, early-internet approach . ZOE.”

At Cinema Capitol on Sunday, March 12, following an early morning Oscar Nominations Watch Party, Cinema Capitol presents a Watch Party for the 95u The Academy Awards begin at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
To date, Cinema Capitol has screened 17 films nominated for the 2023 Oscars, including ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’, ‘The Fabelmans’, ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’, ‘The Whale’ and ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ .
This weekend, Friday March 10 through Monday March 13, Cinema Capitol will screen Best Picture and Best Actress nominee Tár and welcome back the most-nominated film of the upcoming ceremony, Everything Everywhere All At Once .
“With the exception of actually attending the Academy Awards in person, watching the Academy Awards in a movie theater, on a movie screen is the best way to experience the awards ceremony,” said Capitol Marketing Director Rick E. Lewis .
Cinema Capitol invites guests to pick up a ballot at the Cinema in advance or on the night of the party and submit their predictions for a chance to win prizes.
