Bollywood actress Vidya Balan has given many versatile performances since her debut film Parineeta and continues to do so. One of Vidya’s most impressive roles among the many innovative characters she has played on screen has been Pah, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan. She played the mother of 12-year-old Auro (Amitabh Bachchan), who has Progeria, a rare genetic disorder that causes rapid, premature aging.
In a recent interview with Humans of Bombay, Vidya said that she had some reservations about accepting the role of Auro’s father in the film with Abhishek Bachchan. Vidya said, “It took me forever to say yes to this film because when Balki came to me, I first thought, ‘What kind of story is this? He is mad’. And why should he come to me to play Amitabh Bachchan’s mother? This was the only script I shared with some of my friends. Because once the initial shock wore off, I realized it was a great script.”
She went on to say that after her first seizure subsided, she was all in. He further said, “As an actor, I wanted to jump on it, but I wanted some people to read it and tell me what they thought. And everyone said, “Oh my God, you have to do this.” But it took me a while to say yes. It wasn’t a calculated decision. But I was responding to my instincts.”
On the professional front, Vidya has carved a niche for herself in women’s films and achieved success. Some of these movies include, The dirty picture, Kahaani, Tumhari Sulu, Shakuntala Devi, Serneyetc. She was last seen as a TV journalist in the Amazon Prime Video movie Jalsa, with Shefali Shah, Rohini Hattangadi, Manav Kaul and others. Now we will see her inside Neeyat and another untitled film directed by Shirsha Guha Thakurta.
