Chris Pratt lends his voice for Mario in the highly anticipated Super Mario Bros. Movie along with Charlie Day lending his voice for Luigi.
Pratt’s new film seems to have earned the two fathers some “cool” points with their kids.
At a press day for the upcoming animated film based on the iconic video game franchise, the two actors opened up Entertainment Tonight about what their kids thought of being a part of bringing the iconic Mario brothers to the big screen.
Pratt revealed that his 10-year-old son Jack – who he shares with ex-wife Anna Faris – was excited about the upcoming film, but specifically because he’s a “Luigi fan”.
“Like he’s playing Smash Brothers and he’s like, ‘Dad, I own Smash, I own everything in Smash. And I’m Luigi. I think Luigi is a better player,” Pratt said with a laugh. “So it always touches the characters I play!”
Meanwhile, Day and his wife, actress Mary Elizabeth Ellis, have a son, 11-year-old Russell. “This is a big deal in today’s household. It’s no joke, this concert,” he added.
“We’re cool again,” Day enthused to the outlet. “We’re back to cool bads status.”
For both the actors, the film holds a lot of nostalgia, so it was a childhood dream come true to play the iconic plumbers turned kingdom savers.
“I spent hundreds of hours, literally, that’s not an exaggeration, maybe thousands of hours, playing Super Mario Bros. and playing Nintendo as a kid,” Pratt revealed. “So it hits that nostalgic vein, everybody.”
The movie Super Mario Bros is slated to hit theaters on April 5, 2023.
