Wes Anderson is one of those filmmakers whose work is so special Theirs that you don’t need to be told. Have you seen the trailer for Asteroid City, you would know it was a Wes Anderson picture without me telling you. In fact, I’d say that’s true of Anderson’s films more than any other director, including Quentin Tarantino, with the possible exception of Tim Burton.
Asteroid City, with its star-studded cast, pastel desert, quirky bluegrass and quirkier dialogue, it’s perhaps the most decidedly Wes Anderson-esque film, with all his idiosyncrasies rolled into one.
“The course of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention (organized to bring together students and parents from across the country for fellowship and science competition) is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events,” reads the official synopsis.
The film stars Anderson regulars Jason Schwartzman, Tilda Swinton, Bill Murray, Edward Norton and Adrien Brody as well as Maya Hawke, Jeffrey Wright, Bryan Cranston, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis, Steve Carell, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie and. Jeff Goldblum (and forgive me, some of them might even be Anderson regulars, there’s too many to keep track of this cast!)
Asteroid City hits theaters June 16th in limited release and wide release a week later on June 23rd. If Wes Anderson is your cup of tea, this should be right up your alley.
