Maïwenn, French director of Johnny Depp’s latest film, sued for allegedly assaulting journalist – ET Canada

Maïwenn, the director of Johnny Depp’s latest film, “Jeanne du Barry”, is being sued by Edwy Plenel, its editor-in-chief Mediapart magazine, for allegedly assaulting him in a restaurant.

As reported by Varietythe complaint, filed March 7, accuses Maïwenn of assaulting Plenel in late February while he was eating at a Paris restaurant.

According to the police complaint, Plenel was left “traumatized” by the encounter, during which Maïwenn allegedly came to his table and grabbed him by the hair before spitting in his face. He said nothing and left the venue immediately after the match.

Maïwenn’s latest film, starring Johnny Depp, debuts at the Cannes Film Festival. Despite the complaint being addressed a month ago, it was leaked on Friday shortly before the new film was scheduled to arrive at Cannes.
