In 2019, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Salman Khan were to reunite after 12 years for a major project titled Inshallah. The director had cast Alia Bhatt as the female lead opposite Salman. Unfortunately, the project was shelved due to creative differences. The actor, who was one of the hosts at the 68th Filmfare Awards on Thursday, teased Sanjay and Gangubai Kathiawadi’s leading lady Alia at a moment at the ceremony when the period film bagged an award for dialogues. A fan shared the light-hearted moment on Twitter from the awards show. They captioned the short video, “Salman bhai pls stop playing with our emotions.” In the clip, writer Utkarshini Vashishtha accepts the Filmfare Award for Best Dialogues. He exclaims, “Then I have to thank God for Alia Bhatt!” Salman jokingly replies, “Inshallah.” Sanjay and Alia, both sitting next to each other in the audience, burst out laughing with the actor covering her face with her hands. “Inshallah, we got her,” adds Utkarshini.

In the comments section of the Twitter post, a fan asked, “Chances hai kya?? (Is there a chance?).” Another fan added, “showing up for Insalah 2024.” Yet another fan shared, “This brought back memories of the day Inshallah was announced. The wave of emotions I went through not knowing whether to be excited or nervous. But it would definitely be one of the most anticipated films.”
After Inshallah was removed, Sanjay announced that he was working with Alia in Gangubai Kathiawadi. The film, which also starred Ajay Devgn, Shantanu Maheshwari, Jim Sarbh and Vijay Raaz, ended up winning eight awards, including Best Film, Best Actress (Female) and Best Director.
Meanwhile, fans are still waiting for Sanjay and Salman to reunite after Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999) and Saawariya (2007). Last year, the director had told Bollywood Hungama that he wanted to work with Salman again. He said, “My utmost appreciation and respect to the person who did Khamoshi for me, who did Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam for me and who stood by me during Sawariyaa. He was an important part of who I am today and I will I always respect him for that. The ball is in his court to decide if he wants to work with me.”
