Abhishek Bachchan: “Southern films have been made in Hindi and vice versa for the last 70 to 80 years, it is not something new”

Abhishek Bachchan, whom we will see later in the remake of the Tamil movie Oththa Seruppu Size 7says the trend of films from the South being remade in Hindi is not new.

The actor said there may be more media attention now, but the exchange of stories between the two industries has always been there.

“I’ve done a southern remake in the past. Now, the media glow is in it (more). Southern films have been made in Hindi and Hindi films have been made in the South for the last 70 to 80 years. The language of cinema is the same. “

“There will always be an exchange in the cinema and language becomes less of an obstacle. “Also, as we have another medium (OTT), before that in select theaters (Southern language movies would be released) in Mumbai or in satellite dubbed versions, now there is accessibility (I’m referring to OTT),” said the actor.

Bachchan, whose film Dasvi released today, said adapting to Hindi SSS7 is a passionate project and he is excited about it.

“It’s a very provocative film to make, it’s a solo actor’s film, I’m the only actor, there are different characters but they do not appear. It is a huge challenge. I’m glad I was given the opportunity (to do it). It’s a remake (so it can’t be expensive, “said Bachchan, who also co-produces SSS7).

The 46-year-old actor informed that the team is currently working on the post-production of the film, which will be released soon.

“We have finished shooting and the post-production is in progress, they are completing the editing and other work will begin. It should be released soon. “We have not set a date yet,” he said.

Oththa Seruppu Size 7, released in 2019, was produced, written and directed by R Parthiban, who has also starred in the film and is the only character.

Bachchan is also looking forward to R Balki’s next directorial venture, Ghoomer, which marks the second collaboration between the actor and director since their 2009 film Paa, which also starred Amitabh Bachchan and Vidya Balan.

Whether it’s creating the “Idea” campaign (mobile phone) or working on “Paa”, it’s always a lot of fun. He is a dear friend and a director that I respect very much. “The movie is almost over,” he said.

Dasvi is broadcast on Jio Cinema and Netflix.
