Get the latest on Bollywood and what’s happening at their end
All you prophets of doom, the boom day profits are here. Pathaan once again opened the floodgates for Bollywood boxoffice bonanza. And now there is only achche din ahead for Hindi cinema.
The next two months will see the release of three blockbuster hits, starting with Shehzada. A sharp devilishly vicious remake of Allu Arjun’s 2020 Telugu blockbuster Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo. Super popular Kartik Aaryan gives his own take on the character. This show will take Kartik to the next level of stardom. Kartik’s version of Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo is radically different from the Telugu version. Shehzada takes the basic idea of the Telugu original and turns it into something completely different. Kartik’s co-star in Shehzada is Kriti Sanon with whom he earlier shared the superhit space in Lukka Chuppi.
Then there is Luv Ranjan’s thrilling rom-com Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar. The director’s male perspective on the chaos of love relationships culminates in a comic in his last moments. Ranjan for the first time, works with Ranbir Kapoor for the first time works with Shraddha Kapoor who is in dire need of a hit. This movie should do the trick. The stunning couple leads try to outdo each other in a game of Luv This is Luv Ranjan’s Hum…Aapke Hain Con. Ranjan has in the past used the romcom space to entertain his audience till the end, says this time the stakes are different. It’s not something we’ve seen before.
Finally is Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. Karan Johar’s first directorial debut in six years (not counting the one part in Ghost Stories and Lust Stories). This time he assembled a dream cast of Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, Sambana Azmi, Ranveer Singh and box office darling(s) Alia Bhatt. But believe me, this isn’t about bringing the stars together in a smug plot. The writing in this crazy Romeo & Juliet is so crisp and exciting, the experience is likely to be the visual version of a multi-flavored cream cone. Color, choler and karma collide in this tragic-comic love story. Let the box office dhamaka begin from the house of Dharma.
