Among many others, now famous poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar has also shared his view on the ongoing “Besharam Rang” dispute. While the controversy needed no introduction, in case you are not aware, the Central Board of Certification (CBFC) has reportedly asked the makers to make changes to certain shots in Pathan movie song. A day before the Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer of Pathan Trailer Launch Javed Akhtar interacts with the press during the launch of Jadunama, a book based on his life on Monday.

Amidst Pathaan Row, Javed Akhtar comments on censorship and the CBFC. says, “we must show due respect”

When asked to comment on the ongoing controversy, the veteran lyricist asserted, “It’s not for me or you to decide whether the song is right or wrong. We have an agency, the department from the government, and there are people from the government and a social department that will watch the film and decide what will pass and what won’t. I think we have to have confidence in this certification, the cuts they’re proposing and what they’re going through.”

As the discussion progressed further, Javed went on to comment on the CBFC’s proposed censorship and cut list for the upcoming spy thriller. Elaborating on his point of view, Javed said, “There is a committee for film certification, the certificate is given by the agency from the central government department, and I think we should show due respect to this certificate. If everyone is being censored, then what is the use of this certificate given by the central government? The government has the right and we must respect the certification.”

The lyricist-turned-political activist was also asked to talk about the “fringe elements” that come into the picture whenever there are controversies surrounding films. For the uninitiated, the question, according to an Indian Express report, was asked of Javed in connection with the vandalism of Bajrang Dal theaters in Ahmedabad. Expressing his opinion on the same, the poet added, “There is no fringe evidence, ministers talk about these things, forget fringe evidence. The Madhya Pradesh Home Minister said so and if he thinks there should be a separate censor board for Madhya Pradesh, they are watching the film separately. And if they are unhappy with the Centre’s cinema certification, we should not come between them, it is between them and the Centre.” Akhtar’s reply was in reference to MP Home Minister Narottam Mishra’s objection to Deepika Padukone’s costume in the song.

Back to the movie, Pathan is expected to be released on January 25th.
