The original Pink Ranger sheds more light on why she didn’t return for the film, while confirming that the late Jason David Frank “turned the film down as well.”
Amy Jo Johnson reveals her decision not to return for Netflix’s new ‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’ movie.
While her former costars David Yost and Walter Emanuel Jones return in their costumes for the new film, “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always,” Johnson — the original Pink Ranger — declined to return.
In January, when the film was first revealed, he said he “never said no” to the film, but “just didn’t say yes to what was offered.” At the time, she also said she was excited to see her “friends kick it.”

Those comments were interpreted by some to mean she wasn’t offered enough money to make the film — but now, she says that’s not the case. “Stop saying I didn’t reunite because of money,” he tweeted Sunday, “Just not true.”
“Maybe I just didn’t want to wear spandex at 50, or I couldn’t go to New Zealand for a month. Or none of the beeswax,” she added.
Johnson went on to confirm that former Ranger Jason David Frank also rejected the film, saying it was in the works before his death in November 2022. “JDG and I chose not to do it for our own reasons,” he added — before repeating that he was “Excited to see my friends @David_Yost & @Walterejones rock it!!”
“Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always” also features Catherine Sutherland (the second Pink Ranger), Steve Cardenas (the second Red Ranger), Karan Ashley (the second Yellow Ranger) and Johnny Yong Bosch (the second Black Ranger), as they face a Rita Repulsa robot.
In the film, it appears that Rita is responsible for the death of the original Yellow Ranger, Trini Kwan. The character was played by Thuy Tran in the series, although she left the show and tragically died in a car accident in 2001. The character’s daughter will have a role in the film.
The film premieres April 19 on Netflix.
