Having seen great success with the martial arts epic Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon more than two decades ago, director Ang Lee now planning a film about one of the masters of screen combat: Bruce Lee. And he didn’t have to look far for a star, casting his son Mason Lee in first place.
According DeadlineAng and Mason have been planning this for the past few years, with the latter committing to an extensive training program through lockdown and then to get into race shape.
Bruce Lee, of course, needs little introduction as a movie icon and Chinese-American pioneer who still faced racism and obstacles even as he became a global star. And, of course, he died shockingly young at 32, not too long ago Enter the Dragon consolidated his discovery.
“Bruce Lee was accepted as neither fully American nor fully Chinese, he was a bridge between East and West who introduced Chinese Kung Fu to the world, a martial scientist and an iconic artist who revolutionized both martial arts and cinema action,” Ang Lee said. says Deadline. “I feel compelled to tell the story of this brilliant, unique man who longed to belong, possessed tremendous strength in a 135-pound frame, and who, through tireless hard work, made impossible dreams come true.”
Foxcatcher author Dan Futterman is the most recent person to work on the script, which has gone through several drafts as Lee and Sony developed it. Now it finally looks ready to go.
