Director Anurag Kashyap recently attended the Kerala International Film Festival (IFFK) at Thiruvananthapuram. He was the main guest of the opening event of the festival and was overwhelmingly welcomed. The director praised the state for producing the best Indian cinema right now.

At the opening of the festival, Anurag Kashyap praised the state filmmakers and said, “the best of Indian cinema comes from the land of God.” “I make films in Hindi where we distort history, while Kerala tells the story of the time we live in with its cinema, so it is so wonderful to be here,” he added.
Kashyap further said that “his closest associates – my accomplices in crime, my friends – are from Kerala”.
“It’s so inspiring, not just experimenting (the Malayalam filmmakers) in the art form, it’s so. “With roots, you get a sense of time and place, which I no longer find in Hindi movies,” he added.
Kashyap also spoke with Bina Paul, artistic director of the Kerala International Film Festival (IFFK), at a “Masterclass” session organized as part of the festival. During the session, he said that a backward culture where everything was considered taboo was prevalent in India and also affected funding for the type of films he made. He spoke at length about his conservative upbringing, his trip to Mumbai and his struggles as a director. He said that the style of the cinema was the product of intense years of struggle.
